Baldness and Its Ayurveda Management

Dr. Gaurang Joshi

Hair loss or baldness is usually caused because of genetics (inherited tendency), disease, medications, stress, injury or damage to the hair. Generalized hair loss is termed Alopecia whereas small, circular bald patches are termed as Alopecia Areata. The two conditions have been clubbed here together because of similarity of symptoms, and the Ayurvedic principles of treatment for both are described here. It is noteworthy to mention here that treatment is usually effective for premature hair loss, and where the cause is amenable to treatment.

Ayurveda Treatment for Epistaxis

Dr. Triveni KCT

Nasal bleeding is known by the medical term - Epistaxis. An obvious symptom of nosebleed is blood coming down the nostril, most often it is one sided. Epistaxis is one of the most common ENT emergencies. Although most patients can be treated within an accident and emergency setting, some are complex and may require specialist intervention. Epistaxis can affect any age group, but it is the elderly population who often require more intensive treatment and subsequent admission.

The nose is highly vascular organ of the body (i.e. rich in blood vessels) and is situated in a vulnerable position on the face. As a result, any trauma to the face can cause bleeding from the nose. Nose bleeds can also occur spontaneously when the nasal membranes dry out, crust, and crack, this is common in dry climates or during the winter months when the air is dry or in hot and dry areas. Air moving through the nose can dry and irritate the membranes lining the inside of the nose due to low humidity, forming crusts. These crusts bleed when irritated by rubbing, picking, or blowing the nose.

The medicines are formulated by the Swami himself. With more than 25 years of experience in treating Psoriasis patients, Swami Gokuldas is confident of curing Psoriasis.

The revolutionary treatment plan he developed, has been called a miracle by many a cured. It is completely different than anything you have ever heard. Purely, organic medicines are used. Patients from many countries like Germany, Israel etc come here for treatment. Swami has identified different types of psoriasis in various countries and has developed medicines for all these types. If you are not satisfied for any reason, yourmoney will be refunded, says the Swami.

This is only an introduction about some of the activities of Thapodhyan Ashramam, especially in the field of medical care which it has been rendering for years to the suffering humanity.

The term medical care is not to be misconstrued to mean the so- called modern medical treatment which, of late, has surrendered itself at the altar of commercialization, thus, making it costly and expensive to the poor people of this country.

Thapodhyan Ashram, as the words denote, lay emphasis, inter-alias, on austerities and meditation, apart from administration of medicines. It tries to regulate the diet and life-style of the patient, whatever may be his disease, and brings him to the main stream of Natural Living, which from time immemorial, was the living style of our fore fathers, since thousands of years ago. This method was said to be in vogue during the days of Buddha

The Ashramam regulates not only the food one takes but even his thoughts. This cannot be achieved except through moral and spiritual discipline.

This, in brief, has been the method the Ashramam has been adopting for treating the patients who have been coming to it for relief. And by the grace of God, by treating the mind and the body, the Ashramam has been successful in curing patients, particularly suffering from Asthma, Diabetes ,Psoriasis and various type of lifestyle diseases.
The Ashramam is trying to revive only our age old system prescribed by our forefathers thousands of years ago. Through this method the Ashramam hopes to take India to an era of health and happiness. Patients suffering from various diseases need not give up hope. They are invited to Thapodhyan Ashramam where they will be received with warmth, love and affection. Its approach to patients is based on the Upanishadic Concept of Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam (One Universe- One Family).

Siddha Hathayogi Swami Gokul das, is the Acharya and physician in charge of the Ashramam. The ashram is engaged in various social service activities for the poor and the less privileged. Treatment and rehabili-taion of the mentally challenged is one among these relief activities.

Psoriasis at a glance

It is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. -It has no known cause. -It is not contagious. -It gets better and worse spontaneously and can have periodic remissions -It can be controlled with our medication -Along with proper diet and yoga, it is curable.

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disease that causes rapid skin cell reproduction resulting in red, dry patches of thickened skin. The dry flakes and skin scales are thought to result from the buildup of the rapid production of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, scalp, and ears but is not necessarily restricted to these areas. It can also affect fingernails, eyesight and can also lead to psoriatic arthritis which involves severe joint pains.Psoriasis is seen worldwide, in all races, and both sexes. Although psoriasis can be seen in people of any age - from babies to seniors, patients are typically first diagnosed in their early adulthood. It is considered a long-term (chronic) skin condition. Due to its extremely chronic nature, World Health Organization deems this disease as cured only after five years of non-recurrence. Psoriasis has a variable course with periodic ups and downs. In certain cases psoriasis may clear for years and stay in remission. Some people observe that their symptoms worsen during the colder winter months and report improvement in warmer months or climates. Increased exposure to sunlight (before 9:30 am and after 5:00 pm) helps improve this condition. Some people have very mild occurrences of this disease and go for years before realizing it. Small dry patches on their elbows, knees, or scalp are the most common initial symptoms that people fail to take notice. Others have very severe disease where virtually their entire body is covered with psoriatic scales.

What does psoriasis look like?

What are the symptoms?

Psoriasis typically looks like red or pink areas of thickened, raised, and dry skin. It classically affects areas over the elbows, knees, and scalp. Essentially any body area may be involved. It tends to be more common in areas of trauma, repeat rubbing, use, or abrasions. Psoriasis has many different appearances.

It may be small flatt-ened bumps, large thick plaques of raised skin, red patches, and pink mildly dry skin to big flakes of dry skin that flake off.Sometimes pulling of one of these small dry white flakes of skin causes a tiny blood spot on the skin. Genital lesions especially on the head of the penis are common. On the nails, it can look like very small pits (pinpoint depressions or white spots on the nail) or as larger yellowish-brown Nail psoriasis may be confused with and incorrectly diagnosed as a fungal nail infection. On the scalp, it may look like severe dandruff with dry flakes and red areas of skin.

What causes psoriasis?

The exact cause remains un-known. There may a combination of factors, including genetic predis position and environmental factors. The immune system is thought to play a major role

What types of treatment are available? And How…?
